The George P. Hanley Democracy Center, located in the Campo Sano Building on the Coral Gables campus of the University of Miami, is dedicated to advancing the study, research, and practice of democracy. Founded in 2022 through the generosity of George P. Hanley, the Center works closely with students, faculty, and university leadership to deepen understanding of democratic governance in the United States and around the world.
Through public events, academic programming, and student engagement initiatives, the Center
promotes rigorous inquiry into the rules, history, institutions, and contemporary challenges of democratic systems. In collaboration with the Department of Political Science, the College of Arts and Sciences, and university and community partners, the Center provides meaningful educational opportunities that connect theory to practice.
The Center is led by a team of student directors and interns under the faculty direction of Dr. Gregory Koger.
